Before Making Suggestions, Try to Understand What the Other Person “ACTUALLY” Looking for – Leadership Coaching

Recently I was talking to a senior leader who shared with me an incidence. He was talking about his conversation with another person. He was not liking what the other person expected from him. He did reply to another person but he wanted my thoughts on the same and my inputs.

I made the suggestion that in today’s time sometimes people look for something that we may not like.

In such instances, as a leader “usage” of “humour” can be an effective method to handle such situations. So I told him that to use “Humour” effectively to handle such a situation

To my surprise, the leader I was talking to got a bit angry and told me that “I had achieved so much success and had a good repo with so many people because of my nature and communication. The problem is not at my end”

My learning from this conversation..

Before Making Suggestions, Try to Understand What the Other Person is “ACTUALLY” Looking for.

As a coach to senior leaders and executives, these instances always inspire me to learn & polish myself further.
